Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday, 5th August 2024, ending her rule of a long 15 years. She reached the Uttar Pradesh’s Hindon Air-Base on a C-130 aircraft transport. She is expected to head to London in a few days. Currently, she is being kept safe in a house in India.

After Sheikh Hasina landed in India, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India arranged a cabinet meeting for the crisis and protest that have been following in Bangladesh. Rehana, Sheikh Hasina’s sister is also accompanying her, reported the media.

Know about the Bangladesh crisis:

 
300 people which include policemen have been reported dead during the anti-government crisis protest in Bangladesh. This all began on Friday, 2nd August 2024. Last month, Bangladesh High Court restored the quota system for the government jobs. This includes 30% reservations for the families of veterans of 1971 war from Pakistan. The Supreme Court decided to suspend this statement and set a date of 7 august for the hearing. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina rejected the statement and refused to meet the demands of the students.
A few hours later, Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, resigned from her position and fled from the country. All this while, the protests were going on in Bangladesh. After her resignation, the local public and a few demonstrators entered her official houses and buildings and started looting the interiors and objects.

Interim Government: 

With Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, Waker-Uz-Zaman, the army chief announced that they would be forming an interim government in her absence. He also ensured that the deaths and injustice acts during the protest will be specially investigated by higher authorities once the things get back in place. He also said “many people have been killed and the economy has been hardly hit. The country has suffered a lot and is suffering a lot now. It is high time to stop the violence and stand together.”
With this, Shahabuddin, the President of Bangladesh has ordered the release of the prisoners. Most importantly, he released Khaleda Zia, who was jailed by Sheikh Hasina in 2018. Khaleda Zia has been reported to be in a poor health currently.
