An Indian astronaut is set to join the International Space Station (ISS) by April 2025, now India is poised for a groundbreaking achievement in space exploration. The mission is part of a collaboration between ISRO and NASA. For the country’s space ambitions, it is an important milestone. Jitendra Singh Science and Technology Minister made the announcement, which comes at an exciting time, just ahead of August 23 India’s first National Space Day. As work is in progress, two officers of the Indian Air Force are undergoing rigorous training in the United States.
Indian Astronauts Prepare for ISS Journey: ISRO-NASA Mission
For the Axiom Space Ax-4 mission Group captions Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair and Shubhanshu Shukla of the Indian Air Force are currently undergoing training in the United States. For the mission, Shukla has been selected as the primary astronaut, while Nair will work as the backup. Singh revealed in a press conference in New Delhi that “by April next year An Indian astronaut will travel to the ISS.” In India’s space exploration efforts, this mission marks a significant step forward.

ISRO’s upcoming missions: Future of space exploration
On its upcoming missions, ISRO also provides updates. NISAR, a joint mission of ISRO-NASA, an earth observation satellite, after the February 2025 launch is scheduled. Looking further ahead, in 2027 Chandrayaan-4 mission launch was planned by ISRO. The aim of the mission is to return lunar soil and rock samples to Earth.
