What is Param Rudra Supercomputers:
Three supercomputers have been launched, under the Param Rudra supercomputing system. Through these supercomputers with a processing capacity of 1 petaflop, India has taken a big leap in the world of technology.
India Supercomputer:
By launching Param Rudra supercomputers, India has taken a big leap in the field of technology. This supercomputing system can process very heavy data in the blink of an eye with a processing capacity of 1-petaflop. Petaflops is used to measure the calculating speed of a computer. This is equivalent to one quadrillion floating-point operations per second (One quadrillion = 1,000,000,000,000,000). India has also launched high-performance computing (HPC) systems on Thursday. They have been named ‘Araka’ and ‘Arunika’. Let us tell you in detail about Param ‘Rudra’, Araka, and Arunika.
What are PARAM Rudra supercomputers? What is their speed?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to the nation on Thursday. They have been built indigenously at a cost of Rs 130 crore under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). These supercomputers are named on the basis of Lord Shiva’s name. 1 petaflop per second is the processing speed of this supercomputing system. That is, it can execute 1,000,000,000,000,000 floating-point operations in one second. For a single machine, this is a very fast computing speed.

Where are PARAM Rudra supercomputers installed, what will they do?
In Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata Three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers have already been deployed. These supercomputers have the potential to bring about a revolutionary change in the field of radio astronomy and meteorology.
According to the official website of PM India, the Giant Meter Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Pune is one of the largest telescopes in the world. It will use the PARAM Rudra supercomputer to detect fast radio bursts (FRBs) and other astronomical events. This will help us unravel all the mysteries of astronomy, from black holes to the origin of the universe.
At the same time, to promote research in the field of material science and atomic physics the PARAM Rudra Supercomputer was installed at the Inter-University Accelerator Center (IUAC) in Delhi. The third PARAM ‘Rudra’ supercomputer has been installed at the SN Bose Center in Kolkata which will help in advanced research in fields like physics, cosmology, and earth science.
What are Arka and Arunika? What is the speed and where will it be used?
On Thursday two new high-performance (HPC) systems were launched by PM Modi. These are named ‘Araka’ and ‘Arunika’ which are based on the Sun. Built at a cost of Rs 850 crore, these systems have a combined processing power of 21.3 petaflops. Both of them will replace the existing HPC systems – Pratyush and Mihir – at the National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF) in Noida and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune.
With the help of Arka and Arunika, high-resolution models will be developed that will significantly increase the accuracy and lead time of predictions related to important meteorological events. With their help, in the field of meteorology, India is set to become a big player.
Why is this achievement important?
Be it the PARAM ‘Rudra’ supercomputers or HPCs like ‘Arka’ and ‘Arunika’, with their help India has taken a big leap in supercomputing technology. With the help of the combo of Param Rudra, Arka and Arunika, India is ready to make significant contributions in fields ranging from astronomy to weather forecasting. This will further strengthen India’s position in global research.
