A total of 12 people were injured in a terrorist attack including 2 women and 4 teenagers in a busy market located in Srinagar. The terrorist threw a grenade while the people were busy shopping resulting in many people being injured. The incident took place near Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) in Srinagar. The people injured were mostly shoppers at the Sunday market.
This terrorist attack happened a day after the encounter of Lashkar-e-Taiba’s commander Usman Lashkari by the police at the Khanyar area in Srinagar. It is said to be a desperate attack by the terrorists to avenge their deceased commander. The attack victims were immediately taken to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital. Doctors said that they suffered minor injuries except for one woman who still remains in critical condition.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had a talk with the security officials including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat soon after the attack and asked for an “effective and forceful” retaliation. Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah asked the security officials to take necessary action to put an end to these attacks. In 2022 a similar attack happened near Amirakadal bridge in Srinagar where 2 people were injured by a grenade blast. Since then, no such attack had taken place until this one.
