Supreme Court reprimanded Delhi government failing to ban firecrackers
Supreme Court: On Monday, the Supreme Court sought a reply from the Delhi government and the police that despite the ban on firecrackers every year, they are still made and sold in the market. As a result, every year after the festival, the national capital and the surrounding areas remain suffocated due to poisonous air for many days. Due to which the danger of many diseases looms. The Supreme Court has imposed restrictions on its open sale in the market, but when it is sold openly every year, the Supreme Court has sought a reply from the police and the Delhi government.
The Supreme Court has asked the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government and the union home minister to explain in a report, Why the government did not completely stop the sale of firecrackers despite imposing a ban on them this year, and has also sought an answer on how to completely stop them in the coming year.

Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih said that the ban on firecrackers was not implemented at all in Delhi NCR. Due to which it had a very bad effect on the city and fog covered the entire city and people also had trouble breathing. If the government had banned it, it would have been considered an important measure to reduce pollution. But the Supreme Court has sought an answer from the Delhi government and the police for not doing so and why it was not done.
On Monday morning, Delhi’s Air Quality Index or AQI fell to the ‘severe’ category across the city even four days after Diwali. Several areas including Ashok Vihar, Anand Vihar, Rohini, and Vivek Vihar recorded AQI readings of 400 points.
