In the landmark moment for Indian cinema, maha avatar Narasimha has become the first -ever animated film in Hindi to breach the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office. The mythological epic, which narrates the timeless story of Lord Narasimha, Hiranya Kashyap and Prahalad has defied industry expectations and set a new benchmark for the animation genre in India.

The film ‘s Hindi version has now amassed Rs.107.65 crore in just 16 days, an achievement previously unheard of for an animated feature in the country. The feat is even more remarkable considering the historical performance of animated films in India, where even big budget productions have struggled to cross the Rs 30-40 crore mark. Mah avatar Narsimha is a 3D animated mythological film directed by Ashwin Kumar, produced by Klem Productions and presented by Hom bale Films.

This story draws from ancient Hindu texts- the Vishnu Purana, Narasimha Purana, and Shrimad Bhagavata Purana- and retells the legendary tale of Prahlad’s unwavering devotion and Vishnu’s fierce Mahavatar Narasimha confronting Hiranya Kashyap. Ashwin Kumar envisioned the film Mahavatar Narasimha as a ‘’labor of love’’ rooted in collective history aiming to prove that Indian VFX and animation can be world- class and not just child centric.

It sparked a spiritual and cultural movement – audiences treated the film viewing experience with reverence, often removing their shoes before entering theaters, likening cinema halls to sacred spaces. Mahavatar Narasimha is not just a milestone p it’s a movement. It redefined what Indian animation can be, serving as a spiritual, cinematic, and commercial triumph. More than entertainment, it reconnected audiences with cultural heritage- and did so with global ambition and emotional resonance.
