Heavy Rainfall in Kolkata in 37 years : 7 People Killed
Heavy rainfall in Kolkata city and heavy waterlogging, bringing the traffic on the road, train operations, and daily life to a grinding halt amid Durga Puja buzz. Heavy rainfall in Kolkata is expected to last for hours from Monday night to early Tuesday morning. According to officials of the government and police, seven people have died in this heavy rainfall in Kolkata.

Services disrupted due to Heavy Rainfall in Kolkata
- The train and metro services are disturbed due to waterlogging of the tracks, the mid-section of Blue Line (Dakshineswar–Shahid Khudiram) faced heavy flooding between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Rabindra Sarobar stations, leading to immediate suspension of services on this stretch.
- A spokesperson for Metro Rail Kolkata confirmed that services between Shaheed Khuderaam and Maidan stations have been suspended since morning to ensure passenger safety. The Services between Dakshineshwar and Maidan are operating on a limited scale, and normal operations are expected to resume soon.
- The waterlogging of tracks also affect the movement of trains in the south section in Kolkata like Sealdah the services will operated in the Sealdah north and main sections to and from Howrah and Kolkata terminals were partially disrupted due to waterlogging of tracks.
- Due to heavy rainfall in Kolkata the movement of circular railway line was also suspended at yard. Many schools declared the holidays due to heavy rain.
- The IMD has warned that heavy rains are likely in several districts of South Bengal due to the low pressure area formed in the north-east of the Bay of Bengal. Particularly heavy rainfall in Kolkata was recorded in the southern and eastern parts of Kolkata, with 332 mm of rain recorded in Garia Kamadahare, 285 mm in Jodhpur Park, 280 mm in Kaleghat, 275 mm in Topasiya, 264 mm in Ballyganj and 195 mm in Thanataniya in north Kolkata.
