Heavy Rainfall in Kolkata | Durga Puja Holidays Preponed
The schools were closed for two days due to the schedule for the celebrations of Durga Puja, and colleges were asked to hold the classes online after the heavy rainfall. Flights are cancelled and Metro services were also suspended, vehicles were stranded and waterlogging submerged most of West Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department said that till Friday, 26 September, there will be heavy rainfall in Bengal. In view of the above low-pressure area, the Meteorological Department says there will be heavy rainfall in the south of Bengal. The schools were closed for two days ahead of schedule for Durga Puja celebrations, and colleges were asked to hold the classes online. The education minister announced that all government-run education institutions would remain closed on 24 and 25 September.

On Tuesday, the heavy rainfall in nearly four decades affected the crippling daily life and commute and affected the preparations for Durga Puja. According to the India Meteorological Department officials, the rate of heavy rainfall is 98mm per hour.
Due to heavy rainfall in Kolkata, at least 11 people were killed over a period of six hours. Some flights are delayed, and some flights are cancelled, and rail services will also be affected, and huge traffic was witnessed on roads. The water gushed into homes and apartments, and metro and local train services were also affected, and some of Kolkata’s famous outdoor puja pandals were also damaged.
On Tuesday, the heavy rainfall in Kolkata will affect the daily life routine, and travelling will also be affected. Due to waterlogging on Kolkata Metro’s Blue Line (Dakshineswar to Shahid Khudiram stations), service disruptions occurred on some sections, and rail services will also be disrupted at Howrah and Kolkata railway stations. The train services faced partial delays due to waterlogged tracks.
On Tuesday, heavy rainfall in Kolkata disrupted flight services; by evening, more than 90 flights were cancelled. According to PTI, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport saw 42 incoming flights cancelled and 49 outgoing flights cancelled.
