How Junk Food Impact in Our Today’s Generation & Its Side Effects

In today’s generation, everyone is like junk food; everyone is eating every kind of food. Which is good in taste, but not every time is the food that is good in taste healthy for our body or stomach. For example, the packet food we eat, momo, which is made from refined wheat flour (maida), or cold drinks. which contain a lot of sugar are very unhealthy for our bodies. But people & new generations consume these foods daily, and one more thing: it’s also not that expensive, which means it’s cheap. That’s the reason people consume these foods on a daily basis.

Why is Junk Food Unhealthy?

Junk Food Contains:

  1. High sugar can increase your sugar level and also contribute to weight gain.
  2. High unhealthy fats—it increases the risk of heart-related issues for those who have heart-related diseases.
  3. High salt—it can increase high blood pressure for those who suffer from the problem of high blood pressure.
  4. Low nutrients—these foods contain very low amounts of nutrients, fiber, minerals and vitamins. It usually provides calories only.
  5. Highly processed ingredients—these foods contain additives and refined ingredients, which are not healthy.

Examples of unhealthy foods: Burger, Fries, packet chips, candy, sugary cold drinks, etc.

Side Effects of Junk Food: When the consumption of junk food is increased, what happens, and what are the problems? Obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, dental cavities, fatty liver disease, digestive problems, and a lack of nutrients. 

  1. Obesity and Weight Gain: That kind of food sometimes contains calories, sugar and unhealthy fats. Eating it frequently can cause weight gain problems and obesity.
  2. Heart Disease: Junk food is saturated with fats that can increase the level of cholesterol, which leads to heart disease and other problems.
  3. High Blood Pressure: Junk food contains high amounts of salt [sodium]. Too much consumption of sodium can lead to an increase in high blood pressure.
  4. Tooth Decay: Sugary snacks and drinks feed the bacteria of the mouth. This can produce acid that can damage teeth and cause cavities.
  5. Digestive Problems: There is lots of junk food which does not contain any fiber. Lack of fiber can cause constipation and other digestive issues.
  6. Low Energy: Although this kind of food provides quick energy, it is also known as “fast energy food,” but it is often followed by a drop in energy, which makes people feel tired and lazy.
  7. Poor Concentration: If a person takes a high diet in junk food, it may affect memory, focus, and learning ability, especially in children and teenagers.
  8. Unhealthy Eating Habits: Frequent consumption of junk food can cause food poisoning and in long-term consumption habits, make it harder to choose healthier foods later in life.
  9. Nutrient deficiencies: These kinds of food only provide calories but lack minerals, protein, and vitamins, which are important for our bodies.

How to Overcome Junk Food Consumption:

  • Eat more home food—home food is usually a healthier choice rather than junk food. It contains less sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. That does not have a bad impact on your body. If you want any kind of fast food, you can just cook at home. 
  • Choose healthy food—replace chips and candy with fruits, nuts, yoghurts, or roasted seeds.
  • Drink more water—drink water rather than eating bad food if you feel you are hungry and you don’t have good food at that point of time, you just drink water for some time. Drinking water can reduce unnecessary snacking.
  • Read food labels—always check the ingredients of packaged food whenever you buy.
  • Limiting eating fast food—eating fast food on a regular basis, keeping it as an occasional treat.  
  • Meal planning – Preparing your meal in advance helps to avoid eating unhealthy or junk food choices.
  • Choose and eat healthy food—in your meal add fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and healthy fats in your daily meals.
  • Doing physical activity—Doing exercise on a regular basis. This can help to maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the negative effects in your unhealthy diet. After too much eating, if you do any kind of exercise, it digests fast.
