Violation of Red Light

87,000 challans and more than 3 lakh notices have been issued by the Delhi traffic police till 15th September for violation of red light. Due to violation of red lights notices are generated online through the traffic violation detection camera installed on roads while the challans are generated by the traffic persons on site.

As compared to 67,462 challans in 2022 and 66,774 challans in 2023, In this year 87,430 challans for violation of red light are recorded till 15th September. A total of 17,741 challans were the highest in New Delhi and 11,211 in South, 8,719 in South East, 10,108 in West and 6,792 in South West against violation of red light.

From 15 police district in New Delhi challans in Northeast were least- 1140 challans and maximum was in West district- 59,762, 55,562 in South, 51,446 in Southwest, 44,750 in North, 33,488 in Northwest for violation of red light. In addition to this compared to the challans for violation of red light in 2023 was 5,90,227 and 2022 was 1,01,028 and this year till 15th September was 3,12,541. 0 notices were found in North East, Outer North, Rohini and Shahdard District.

Total of 17,66,773 notices were issued for speed violation in which highest was found in Southwest district was 3,43,478, 2,12,033 in South, 1,54,572 in North east and 1,99,288 in North. Compared to this, 29,96,497 in 2022 and 30,10,685 notices were issued in 2023 against violation of speed.

The Delhi police will install over 300 red light violation detection (RLVD) and over speed violation detection (OSVD) at various places across the Capital. The installation will include two types of cameras:

  1. 203 RLDV cameras: These cameras will be places in the interior of the city where there are frequent red lights and crowd is more.
  2. OSVD cameras: These cameras will be placed in the outskirts areas where there is no frequent red lights and crowd is very less and various other places like: flyovers, underpass etc.
  • Currently there are total 209 red light detection cameras at 43 places and 125 over-speeding detecting cameras at 66 places.
