What Will Be the Benefit:
As the name of this service suggests, in this process, the mobile phone will get service directly from the satellite. Currently, we have to depend on telecom towers to use telecom services. Due to this, network problems are seen in many remote areas. In such a situation, with the help of this service called Satellite-to-Device, people will get the option of better connectivity even in remote areas.
BSNL Launches Satellite-to-Device Services:
The Department of Telecommunication (DOT) has posted about this on the social media platform x. DOT wrote in its post that BSNL has launched the country’s first satellite-to-device service. Now with its help, connectivity will be available even in remote areas of India.
Some time ago Viasat had said that they are working with other companies including BSNL in India, so that satellite services can be expanded to consumers and IoT devices. In the trial, Viasat showed a demo of two-way communication and emergency SOS messaging services. The demo of these services was shown using non-terrestrial network (NTN) connectivity through a commercial Android smartphone
When Will Common People Get This Service:
Through this, a message was sent to Viasat’s L-band satellite 36,000 kilometers away. At the Indian Mobile Congress, Viasat said that Direct-to-Device Connectivity is a new technology, through which mobile, smartwatches, cars as well as industrial machinery and transport operators will be able to easily stay connected to terrestrial and satellite networks. However, the Telecom Department, BSNL, and Viasat have not shared any information about the availability, region, and price of this service. Through this service, BSNL has gone one step ahead of other telecom companies.
