Corneal Injury

What is cornea or corneal injury?

Corneal Injury refers to wounds or injuries in the cornea. The cornea is the clear tissue that covers the front of our eyes and helps the retina to focus on something. The cornea is a transparent layer that is very necessary for clear vision. Moreover, any damage to the cornea can lead to severe and significant damage to eye health.

Symptoms or Treatment of Corneal Injury?

Eye paining or burning sensation in the eyes can be a symptom of corneal injury. Blurred vision is the most common sign of corneal injury. Watery eyes, redness, puffiness in the eyes, and sensitivity towards light are some other symptoms that can be related to corneal injury.

Few precautions should be taken against it. If the chemicals or something disturbing is splashed into the eyes, they should be immediately flushed. Any objects that get stuck in the eyes should not be taken out without proper professional guidance. Wearing eye patches on the injured cornea or applying a bandage lens on the injured area can help. Professionally prescribed eye drops should be used. Until the injured cornea is fully healed, contact lenses must be avoided.
