The discussion around got in the change in (MI) Mumbai Indians Hardik Pandya captaincy for the IPL 2024 refuses to die, and on the day of Tuesday, it was the turn of the former cricketer of Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu to share his two cents on the issue.
After trading in Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans ahead of the running IPL season, the MI management has decided to hand over the team’s captaincy of the Hardik Pandya all-rounder, taking it away from their five-time IPL-winning commander Rohit Sharma.
It has led to a lot of comebacks from the MI fans, while various experts expressed their opinion on the matter the latest of which has come from the player-turned-politician Sidhu.

“I have played in the earliest of the Indian cricket team where they have five captains who are used to playing together. Kapil Dev, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Ravi Shastri. Pick the brick up and you will find the captain both above and below it. There were no issues because they lived playing for their country. The motivation is to play for the country. So, Rohit Sharma will not feel smaller while playing under Hardik Pandya,” said Navjot Singh Sidhu on a Star Sports show.
Amazingly, the two most successful IPL teams were with five titles each and have passed the captaincy cane this season.
MS Dhoni also delivered Chennai Super Kings captaincy and handed over the leadership head to Ruturaj Gaikwad, while Hardik Pandya is now at the head instead of Rohit Sharma at Mumbai Indians.
“Dhoni has already surpassed the cane and that could have happened in Mumbai Indians as well…. The (MI) Mumbai Indians gave them three years (after 2020) and when it did not work well (into producing another title), they got a new person for their job. You have to accept it,” said Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Hardik Pandya is good “But the greatest players of all time will always be MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. A Troll is a Troll even if he is the man standing at the top of the peak of a mountain and a God is a God even if the man is standing at anywhere the bottom of a well.”
CSK (Chennai Super Kings) have won both their matches so far in the IPL 2024, while MI (Mumbai Indians) Hardik Pandya captain suffered a defeat against GT (Gujarat Titans) Shubham Gill in their campaign opener.
