Former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan Dies at the Age of 84

On 17 March 2025, Former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan died at the age of 84 at the official residence of his son Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. All leaders express condolences and tributes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses his last respects to former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan. Debendra Pradhan was 84 and after a brief illness, he passed away.

Debendra Pradhan was born on July 16, 1941. He got his MBBS degree from SCB Medical College, Cuttack in 1966. Dr. Pradhan joined the saffron party in 1983 and was appointed as president of the party’s Talcher Mandal the same year. In 1998, he became the Surface Transport Minister in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1991, he won the election from Deogarh and went on to become Union Minister of Surface Transport and Agriculture in the Vajpayee government.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also expressed his heartfelt condolences. He said that I am extremely disheartened to learn about the demise of former Union Minister Devendra Pradhan. Debendra Pradhan was a popular public leader, who made a significant contribution to the development of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Odisha with strong leadership. The country and the state have lost a true public leader.

CM Majhi further said that with a spirit of service and determination, he dedicated his life to the development of the state. Along with this, Chief Minister Majhi expressed condolences to his son and Union Minister, Prime Minister and other family members and said that God should give them strength to bear this sorrow. According to the information, his body will be brought from AIIMS Delhi to the residence of Union Minister Mahanagar Pradhan. After this, from there the last rites of the leveler were performed at Bhuvan and then Puri Swarg Dwar.
