Gujarat ATS Found Gold Worth ₹100 Crores in a Closed House

Ahmedabad and Gujarat ATS found nearly 87 kg of smuggled gold bars worth ₹80 crore, 11 luxury watches, and ₹1.37 crore cash from a locked apartment in Ahmedabad. According to the official statement, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in a joint operation against smugglers raided flat number 104 of the apartment of two stock market traders in Paldi.

During the investigation, the officers found 88 kg of gold bricks and other jewelry worth Rs 19.66 crore. Thus, the total gold recovered was 100 kg. Its market value was estimated to be Rs 100 crore. The officers suspect that at least 57 kg of the gold was smuggled into India from abroad. It was found that the owners of this flat are Mahendra Shah Megh and Shah. The matter has now been handed over to the revenue officials for further investigation.

This is also noted that the majority of gold bars bore foreign markings. Now the DRI will check if the foreign-origin gold had been legally imported or smuggled into the country. Investigators said that the investigation into the matter is underway. Illegal gold and cash are used to convert black money into white, causing crores of rupees of tax loss to the government. DRI will also investigate how the gold, luxury watches, and cash were acquired and whether an international smuggling syndicate was involved.

This is the first such huge recovery in recent times in Gujarat. The team found a closed box in the flat. When they left, even the provincial officers who were inquiring were stunned. After finding such a large quantity of gold, it was watched through the camera. The stock market broker is being questioned and efforts are being made to find out where such a huge amount of gold came from in Gujarat.
