As the festival season is coming, so the Indian railway has decided to run approximately 6,000 special new trains in order to help more than one crore passengers to get home for festivals like: Durga Puja, Chhath festivals and Diwali. Those train routes specially that are destined for Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh are having heavy rush due to festival time.
As compared to last year-4,429 trains, this year a total of 5,976 new trains have been notified which will facilitate around one crore passengers to go home during this festival season. The number of special new trains can be increased if the demand will become higher. As Durga Puja will begin on 9th October, Navratri will begin on 4th October, Diwali will be celebrated on 31st October and Chhath pooja will take place on 7th and 8th November.

Some points related to introducing special new trains are:
- Increased demand- As when the festival season comes the demand for railways increases. For this the railway anticipate this demand and introduce additional new trains facility to provide easy travel to everyone.
- Reservation system- Usually the railway authority upgrade their reservation system by making online booking option and extending the time period for booking trains. This is done in order to manage the excessive passenger load during festival seasons.
- Special trains- Special new trains are introduced by railways during festivals to popular routes which can help in lowering down the crowd in regular trains.
- Promotion offer- During festival seasons, railway introduce special offers and discounts to encourage people to travel.
- Safety and security– In order to ensure safety of the passengers during festival seasons, railway introduce certain safety measures by conducting proper checks of the passengers.
- Timely services– Railway try to maintain efficiency in their services due to increase in demand of passengers. But sometimes due to excessive passengers delay can still occur.
- Uptil now, 12,500 new trains and coaches have been sanctioned to be added to various trains in next one to two years, besides these general coaches that are added in 108 trains.
