Mahindra Thar Car Specifications

Mahindra Thar is available with 2 diesel engines and 1 petrol engine option. Its diesel engines are 2184 cc and 1497 cc while the petrol engine is 1997 cc. It is available with automatic & manual transmission Depending on the variant and fuel type, the mileage of Thar is 15.2 km/litre. Thar is a 4 seater and has a length of 3985, width of 1820, and wheelbase of 2450.

The Journey Started From the Year 1949 

CJ3A was Mahindra’s first car. The company launched it in the year 1949. Its car design is available in all the basic models of Thar. At that time it was an off-roader inspired by Jeep. This car became popular in India as soon as it was launched. In fact, at that time the roads in almost all areas of the country were in very bad condition, due to which its off-roading feature became a boon for the people. This car was also seen in many Bollywood films.

1953– Hurricane Engine Added:

In the year 1953, the powerful engine of Willys Hurricane was given in CJ3B version. This car was powerful in both engine and body. It was given an open roof with a new engine. Apart from this, its windscreen could turn towards the bonnet. 

1985- Entry of MM540:

The company changed the look of its CJ3B in the year 1985 and named it MM540. Doors were not provided in its earlier version, But the doors were included in the MM540. This car became the identity of off-road in India, which was given a grille like Armada. Due to the doors provided in MM540, it was much safer than before. It was quite safe to travel with children in this. Apart from this, due to the doors, an AC facility was also available in it.

1996 – Mahindra Classic:

The company launched its Mahindra Classic in the year 1996. In this, both door and doorless options were given. Apart from this, new color variants were included by the company. This was the first version of Thar which was completely perfect for both off-roading and on-roading needs.

This Car was The Best Thar ever in Terms of Safety: 

2010 – First THAR:

In the year 2010, the company launched the new generation Thar. This was the most different vehicle of the company in this series, whose design had been changed the most. It was re-branded by the company, which was well received by the customers. In the Indian market, it competed only with Maruti Gypsy.

However, one of the biggest features of the Maruti Gypsy was its petrol engine. Whereas, Mahindra Thar was available only in diesel cars. The company further improved the safety features of Thar in the year 2015. After this, in the year 2019, the company launched the Thar 700 Edition in India.
