Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is reportedly considering setting up its inaugural data center in India at the Reliance Industries campus in Chennai. Mark Zuckerberg, a co-founder of Meta, attended the pre-wedding function of Anant Ambani held in Jamnagar in March. That’s why he signed an agreement with Reliance regarding this. The data center will help Meta process user-generated content locally on its apps like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Nevertheless, there has been no official statement released yet regarding the deal.

Meta will have the capability to operate four to five nodes through this campus

Through this campus, Meta will now have the capacity to operate four to five nodes at multiple locations across the country, facilitating faster data processing in India. Currently, the data of Indian users is routed to Meta’s data center in Singapore. According to experts in this matter, with Meta Local Data Center, apart from content, local ads will also improve the experience of users. Apart from this, this will reduce the costing of global data centers.

This campus is spread over 10 acres:- The 10-acre campus located in Chennai’s Ambattur Industrial Estate is a collaborative effort involving Brookfield Asset Management, Reliance Industries, and Digital Realty. It possesses the capability to accommodate up to a 100-megawatt (MW) IT load capacity.

Mark Zuckerberg came to India in March:- Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was present at the pre-wedding celebration of businessman Mukesh Ambani’s younger son, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant. This event occurred in Jamnagar, Gujarat from the 1st to the 3rd of March. Several other prominent figures, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and owner of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani, also attended this event.

What are data centers?
