Replacing Greg Barclay, Jay Shah has been elected as the new chairman for the International Cricket Council (ICC). His new role will begin from 1st December. Currently, Jay Shah, aged 35, becomes the youngest person to secure this position. He is also the secretary of the BCCI.

Greg Barclay was elected for this position for two times. He had confirmed it to the board that he would not be continuing his post for the third time. This is when the board of electors decided to have some nominations. Surprisingly, Jay Shah was the only nominee, only if more than one candidate would have been there for the election. Jay Shah even talked about setting a separate program during his tenure as a Chairman with people’s support. He even talked about test cricket which is like bedrock for the cricket.

In an ICC statement, Jay Shah mentioned “I am humbled and overwhelmed by the nomination as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). I would be working closely with our team and our member nations’ teams to globalize cricket. We stand at a point where there are multiple formats and advanced technologies. It is really important to balance these multiple coexistences. Our goal is to make cricket popular and inclusive, more than it was ever before.”

About Jay Shah’s Career:

After Jagmohan Dalmia, N Srinivasan, Sharad Pawar and Shashank Mohan, Jay Shah becomes the fifth Indian who is the head of International Cricket Council. He began his cricket administration career in 2009 in Gujarat. Shah has been the secretary of the BCCI since 2019 October. He even became the part of Influential Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee of the ICC in 2022. He was also the president of the Asian Cricket Council from 2021 to 2024 also. Jay Shah was also re-elected as the secretary of BCCI in 2022 and his tenure will run up-till 2025. Now in 2024 he is elected as the Chairman of ICC. He will have to relinquish his position at BCCI and the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee as well.
