Nidhi Tewari Appointed as PM Modi’s Private Secretary
On Monday, the cabinet’s appointment committee approved Nidhi Tewari’s appointment as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s private secretary. She was an IFS officer. Nidhi Tewari was previously serving as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The order said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved her appointment with immediate effect.
According to the order by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), she will manage the role of Private Secretary at Level 12 of the pay matrix on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier. At the Prime Minister’s Office, she respectively took care of areas such as External Affairs, Atomic Energy and Security Affairs, as well as the state of Rajasthan. She reported directly to the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
According to the reports, Nidhi Tewari secured the 96th rank in the Civil Services Examination in 2013. Earlier, she worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi while preparing for the examination. She had a brief stint at the Ministry of External Affairs before joining the Prime Minister’s Office. Nidhi Tewari also served in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division. She was deeply involved in foreign policy and was instrumental during India’s G20 presidency.

Nidhi Tiwari is a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. In the DoPT order issued on March 29, Nidhi Tiwari now has a big responsibility as the Private Secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Nidhi Tiwari will be responsible for handling important administrative and diplomatic tasks, assisting in policy coordination, and facilitating communication between the PMO and various ministries.
Her appointment comes at a crucial time when India is strengthening its diplomatic outreach and engaging in important international negotiations. Experts believe her experience in foreign affairs will be valuable in high-level engagements and inshaping policy decisions.
