An immediate ban has been imposed on Monday by the Government on firecrackers in Delhi by anticipating rise in pollution level as winter is approaching. This ban is effective till 1st January and is applicable on the production, sale, storage and use of firecrackers in Delhi city.
In order to reduce the air pollution- An announcement has been initially made on 9th September by the Delhi environment minister ‘Gopal Rai’ to all the Delhi residents to support the government’s action and efforts and not to burn firecrackers in Delhi city. To ensure effective implementation of the ban on firecrackers in Delhi. The pollution control committee has issued a proper detailed instructions regarding the ban.
The main aim of applying the ban on firecrackers in Delhi location beacuse the level of pollution which gets worsen during the winters. This is done to take preventive measures so that the air remains breathable and people can remain healthy. As during the winters there is lower wind speed, stalk burning, and other factors.

Some of the factors that causes ban on firecrackers in Delhi are:
- Weather condition: As during the winter season, smog occurs so the pollution increases as the dust particles comes in contact with the cold air or fog.
- Vehicle emission: During winter the emission from the vehicles get combined with the air making it more polluted.
- Industrial emission: As there are many factories around Delhi so the emission from them can cause pollution.
- Crop burning: Farmers specially burns there stalks after harvesting in the month of October and November this releases huge amount of smoke and harmful gases and increases pollution.
- Construction activities: The construction work in the city contributes dust which pollutes the air. It gets worst mainly in the dry winter season.
- Firecrackers: At the time of Diwali, firecrackers tremendously increase the level of pollution and the impact of this last for many days.
