Gujarat government has recently explained that Hinduism and Buddhism must be compared as two different religions for religious transformation in the state. April 8, a note by the Gujarat government for Hindus- mostly Dalits are transforming or converting to Buddhism in the state announces that the person converting and the person getting them to convert must notify the District Magistrate and take their consent according to the provisions of the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, 2023.
Previously the Gujarat Buddhist Academy said that at least 2,000 people will be converted to Buddhism in Gujarat state in the year 2023. According to the state government, the Gujarat Freedom Act looks the deal with the religious transformation by attraction or by force or by misstatement or by any other means.

The act under section 3 criminalizes trying to convert a person from one religion to another religion by cheating or any allurement or by marriage or by a person getting married and also forcing the other person to marry. Section 3A, press through an adaptation in 2021, any distressed person or any person allied to them to file an FIR for a crime done under the GFR Act.
For a proper conversion to take place, Section 5 gives that an individual who is carrying out the conversion ceremony or the person who takes part directly or indirectly in such event must take a permission in advance with the District Magistrate, and the person who is transformed should also inform to the District Magistrate following the event. If any one of them fails to inform then they invite the punishment of one year or a fine of Rs 1,000.
