PM Narendra Modi Initiates the Tata Aircraft Complex at Vadodara

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex at Vadodara on Monday 28 October 2024. This new facility will be dealing with the manufacture of the C-295 aircraft. A contract of ₹21,935-crore was signed by the Defence Ministry of India with Airbus Defence and Space SA, Spain, in September 2021 for the supply of 56 C-295 aircraft. Out of these 56 aircraft, 16 are supposed to be delivered directly from Spain in fly away condition and the rest will be manufactured in India by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) at the new Tata Aircraft Complex at Vadodara.

Mr. Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India referred to this day as a “very special day” for the Indian Aerospace industry. It is indeed a big leap for India as it is the first time the private sector of India will be involved in the manufacture of military aircraft. The C-295 aircraft are reported to be equipped with an Electronic Warfare Suite that is supposed to be manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited in India. The aircraft is designed especially for air transport missions and can operate under severe weather conditions with a payload capacity of 9.5 tonnes.
