Shubman Gill, ODI New Captain : BCCI Removed Rohit Sharma

Shubman Gill replaces Rohit Sharma as ODI skipper as the squad is announced for the upcoming three-match series against Australia. Shubman Gill has been named the new captain of India’s ODI series and replaced the old captain, Rohit Sharma. The chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, has announced the squad on Saturday for the upcoming match series against Australia the matches starts on 19 October.

The decision to have Shubman Gill succeed Rohit Sharma was made as the current team management wants the 26-year-old to lead India in the ODI World Cup 2027. And set to be played in Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa. Shubman Gill is now the captain in two formats, Test matches and ODI matches, and Vice Captain in T20s.

The selection committee, which is led by Ajit Agarkar, convened on Saturday to pick a squad for the Australia tour. In the Australia series, Shreyas Iyer will be serving as Shubman Gill’s deputy. The right-hand batter from Mumbai has clearly been rewarded for his outstanding captaincy credentials in the Indian Premier League.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in the squad of the India ODI team, making the first international series for the India team since the ICC Men Champions Trophy, which India won in the Final match and beating New Zealand.
