The Indian Hockey men’s team scripted their win against Great Britain on Sunday, 4th August 2024. This win led to their way in the semi-finals in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The win was special for the Indian Team but it also came with some reporting against the umpire’s decision making.

Indian Hockey Team was reduced to 10 players, where Harmanpreet Singh took the responsibility and broke the 22 minute dead-lock by converting one penalty corner. This skill of the Indian Team has always given them an extra edge in many situations and such set-pieces. Great Britain responded very well in the next five minutes after rebounding of Sreejesh’s foot. With that, the score settled on 1-1 and Indian Hockey Team became one man less from the team. Nevertheless, India won with a score of 4-2 against Great Britain.

Report on Umpire’s decision by Indian Hockey Team?

Just a few hours later, it was informed that the Indian Hockey Team has reported the quality of the decisions and the decision making tendency of the umpire. An official statement was also published by the Indian Hockey governing body. The statement mentioned “The complaint by the Team was regarding the match of India and Great Britain. Several errors and mistakes have potentially influenced the outcome of the hockey game.”

This statement was in support when Amit Rohidas received a red card from the referee. The umpire’s decision mentioned that he intentionally hit on William Calnan’s face with his stick while hitting. The situation was, that Rohidas was charging the ball but 2 players from the Great Britain team came from both sides. With reflex, the stick hit on Calnan’s face. Due to which, he was sent out of the ground with a red card.
