Passengers Jumped

BAREILLY: 20 passengers jumped from a moving train in which six passengers got critically injured. Passengers jumped from the train moving at approximately 30 km/h on Sunday morning. An incident occurred between Bareilly and Shahjahanpur district when a false fire alarm triggered panic.

The incident occurred in the general coach of a passenger train with over 100 passengers on the Howrah-Amritsar mail. Eventually, the guard stopped the train and the injured were taken to the Shahjahanpur railway station. After ambulances for the injured were arranged and the injured were shifted to the hospital by the Government Railway Police.

SHO of GRP of Shahjahanpur Railway Station, Rehan Khan said, “The incident could have become fatal as the incident took place near the rail bridge. People could have fallen in the Baigul river and that could be fatal.”

A passenger Tabassum Begum in the same compartment said ‘As the train was crossing Baigul rail bridge passengers heard a blast sound which made them panic in the coach and they started shouting for help, but the blast sound was in a fire extinguisher cylinder which made them panic, some passengers jumped off the moving train, even throwing their luggage. We were all scared but decided to let the train stop.’
