Smart Meters

Modern remote controls are now being used to steal electricity in Indore city. This has also proved that the claim that modern smart meters are foolproof against electricity theft has failed. The electricity company itself has caught cases where consumption was prevented from being recorded in the meter with the help of a remote control.

The company has not been able to reach the remote makers till now. The company is now busy updating the meter’s software so that the remote technology can be got rid of. The electricity company has caught cases of electricity theft with remote control in Arana Nagar, Airport Zone. The electricity company is officially accepting this. The inside news is that some such cases have also come to light in Mechanic Nagar Zone and other zones, but were pressed.

1.Remote Like a Car Key

It has been found out that some electricians of the city are making remotes like a car key. The meter can be slowed down with the help of the buttons in it. I am being told that the red LED bulb blinking on the smart meter is also turned off with the button of the remote control.

2.Electricity Bill Reduced

After this, consumption is not recorded in the meter and electricity bills reduce. The company is also admitting that these people were stealing electricity for one and a half years. About three lakh smart meters have been installed in the city and seven lakh smart meters have been installed in the area of the West Zone Electricity Distribution Company. The engineers of the electricity company are now admitting that it is possible to hack the software of the smart meter.

Engineers told me that the smart meter is an electronic device. It is pre-programmed. It sends signals to the control room of the electricity company far away. That is, it itself also runs on remote technology. In such a situation, it is possible to hack its signal and program in between. The software and programming are being changed so that this does not happen in the future.
