US President Joe Biden hosted a Diwali function at the White House on Monday with around 600 Indian American congressman from all across America. Many famous personalities were also present during this event. He continued the old tradition of lighting a Diya lamp in the Blue Room of the White House.
After completing the tradition, he delivered his remarks before the Indian Americans gathered for the celebration. Along with President Joe Biden’s remarks, there was also a video message from Sunita Williams (NASA Astronaut). She had recorded a video message for everyone from the International Space Station (ISS) where currently she is the Commander in charge.

President Joe Biden also emphasised the role played by the South Asian Americans in the administration stating names like Kamala Harris and Dr. Vivek Murthy. He said that the South Asian American community is the fastest growing community in the world right now.
The Diwali reception also saw a performance by Nootana, a classical South Asian dance and music group from Washington, DC. This is also the last time President Joe Biden hosted the Diwali function as he is not running for the next US presidential election.
