WhatsApp allow UPI Lite Payment On its Platform

The recent teardown of the WhatsApp v2.25.5.17 beta version. Strings of the code related to UPI Lite were found. It strings suggest that WhatsApp is actively developing the feature, though it’s still in the testing phase. WhatsApp is reportedly working on adding an adding new feature to its payment system. According to the report by Android Authority, the social media platform is testing UPI Lite. The feature is designed to make small, frequent transactions quicker and more convenient.

This move could bring WhatsApp closer to competing with established payment apps like Google Pay, Phone Pay, and Paytm. The UPI transactions that require real-time authentication and involve the banking system or UPI Lite allow the user to load a small amount of money into a wallet. These wallets can be used for quick, low-value transactions without the need for repeated authentication. The idea behind UPI Lite is to make small payments faster and more efficient.

For example, if  buying a cup of coffee from a street vendor or paying for a bus ride, you won’t need to go through multiple steps to complete the transaction. Instead, money will be deducted directly from your UPI Lite wallet, reducing the chances of failure during peak transaction times. According to the strings found in the beta version, the WhatsApp UPI Lite payments system operates on other platforms.
