What Is The IIIT Hyderabad MSIT Programme?
IIIT Hyderabad MSIT is a master’s programme and it stands for Master of Science in Information Technology. It starts in January 2027, and it’s a full-time, residential, post-graduate 2-year degree which will be conducted on the campus of IIIT Hyderabad. The degree will be awarded by IIIT Hyderabad itself.
The programme combines computing knowledge with AI research and the development of practical solutions. And it’s not just IIIT Hyderabad involved in this revamped programme, there are multiple other institutions involved as well such as Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning (CIHL) and IIIT Hyderabad’s Centre for Educational Technology and Learning Sciences (CETLS).
What Will Students Learn In This Course at IIIT Hyderabad?
As it’s a 2 year programme, it will have 4 semesters; each will give the students a different and specific learning experience.
- Semester 1: The starting semester at IIIT Hyderabad for MSIT is going to be about computing foundations. Students will learn to work with AI tools, algorithms and data structures, and computer systems. In this semester, students will learn how to give the correct prompts to AI to write codes, debug and write unit tests. They will learn how to do coding using AI but they will still learn and master the core science behind how computers work and process and store data. The students will also learn some soft skills.
- Semester 2: The second semester is going to be about applied research. In this semester instead of sitting inside a traditional classroom and listening to lectures, students will spend their time inside the world-class labs on the campus of IIIT Hyderabad. They will work side-by-side their professors instead of just listening and memorizing theories, and having to rely on their imagination to understand what carrying out the specific task would be like.
- Semester 3: This semester will turn the engineers at IIIT Hyderabad into entrepreneurs, as in this semester the students will get grouped in mini companies to produce a tech product from scratch. And at the end of the semester they will be pitching their prototypes to real-world investors at the campus of IIIT Hyderabad itself. They learn how to figure out what users want, design user interfaces (UI/UX), plan on how to create what they need, complete it, business fundamentals, and then pitch.
- Semester 4: In this semester what the students do, depends on the outcome of 3rd semester was. Students who secure funding for their ventures may move towards launching a startup, others may take on a full-time job/internship with industry partners in a tech company based on their performance.
