The wage rate in India particularly for workers greatly depends on various factors like:

  • Skill level
  • Type of Employment
  • Industry
  • Location
  • In order to support workers in India, particularly those in unorganized sector, the announcement has been made by central government for increase in wage rates. The government of state decides the minimum wage rates for the workers so, it differ from state to state. In connection to this, there are various sector in India that have their own structure for wages. The sectors are: Agriculture, Construction, Services & Manufacturing.
  • The employers should stick with the minimum wages and fair compensation should be given to workers. The wages of an employee should range between minimum wage rate to salaries based on their talent, job position and work experiences. This will help the workers to survive with the continue rising cost of living. From 1st October,2024, the new wage rate will come into force. Skill level and geographical area plays an important role in categorizing the minimum wage rate.
  • On the basis of skill level: Unskilled, Semi-skilled, Highly skilled
  • On the basis of geographical area: A, B, C
  • The benefits of revised wage rate will particularly go to workers those who are in sectors like: building construction, agriculture, cleaning, mining, watch and guard, loading and unloading etc.
  • After 1st October, in area ‘A’ salary for workers in area ‘A’will be:
  • For unskilled workers- Rs. 783 a day( i.e 20,358 per month)
  • For semi-skilled workers- Rs. 868 a day( i.e 22,568 per month)
  • For skilled, clerical and ward and watch without arms- Rs. 954 a day( i.e 24,804 per month)
  • For highly-skilled and ward and watch with arms- Rs. 1035 a day( i.e 26,910 per month)
