An expert meeting was organized on Thursday under the chairmanship of Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai to reduce the level of pollution in winter. Gopal Rai said that experts have suggested artificial rain inside Delhi on severe days.

An expert meeting was organized on Thursday under the chairmanship of Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai to reduce the level of pollution in winter. Officials and representatives of all the concerned departments including DPCC, Environment Department, UNEP, EPIC India, Clean Air Asia, and IIT Kanpur (online) participated in it. Gopal Rai said that experts have suggested artificial rain inside Delhi on severe days. In this regard, a letter will be written to the Union Environment Minister on Friday to hold a meeting with the experts of IIT Kanpur and all the concerned departments.

There is a need to run an awareness campaign:

It emerged in the expert meeting that awareness campaigns should be run to change people’s behavior. Along with this, encouraging work from home, implementing a voluntary restriction on vehicles in one slot instead of odd-even, staggering the timings of different offices, purchasing heaters from the CSR funds of companies and distributing them among the guards of the society to prevent burning of biomass in winters were discussed.’

Relief from pollution:

Gopal Rai said that the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken many tough steps to reduce air pollution, due to which the number of good, satisfactory, and moderate days has increased. The number of good, satisfactory and moderate category days was 110 in 2016, which has increased to 206 in 2023. Every year our government launches summer and winter action plans to deal with pollution in the summer and winter seasons.

Institutions offer their advice:

The suggestions given by the experts will be included in the Winter Action Plan said by Gopal Rai. These organizations have mainly expressed their views and given advice to the Central Government on the issues of vehicle and dust pollution, hot spots, development of green areas, and burning of stubble and garbage.

A joint action plan will be prepared:

Environment Minister Gopal Ral said that a review meeting will be held with all the concerned departments on September 5 regarding the Winter Action Plan and a joint action plan will be prepared on it. The main purpose of this meeting is to create a joint action plan in this war against pollution in Delhi, In the meeting different departments will be assigned specific tasks based on the focus points served under the Winter Action Plan.

2- Pollution caused by vehicles

3- Burning of stubble

  1. Burning garbage in the open

5- Industrial pollution

6- Green War Room and Green App

7- Hot spot

8- Real Time Source Apportionment Study

9- Increasing green cover and planting trees

10- E-Waste Eco Park

11- Promotion of public participation

12- Fireworks

13- Dialogue with neighboring states and the central government

14-implementation of GRAP
