Big Changes in the Education System by NEP For Students
What is NEP?
The New Education Policy [NEP] is a policy for Indian students, introduced by the Indian government in 2020, to improve the education of school and college students.
What are the Drawbacks of the Education System Before NEP?
Everyone should know how education is important for ourselves if our education system is not good our country will not able be a development country education plays huge role in country development we can take example like China, USA are developed countries that’s all because of the education, in these country education system is very strong China’s education system work more on practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge that’s why they learn they developed their country too fast in few years.
But in our country, we focus more on theory and less on practice. This is why students do not remember anything they learn. There was no freedom for students to choose different subjects, no concentration on skills and creativity, academic pressure was very high, there was no online or digital learning in our system, no preparation for future jobs, so students could get any job or not feel afraid to apply for jobs.
Why is NEP Important?
- Tell this earlier that it’s very important for our country’s development, education is an indirect way to increase our GDP.
- Students gain more practical knowledge and skill-based rather than theoretical knowledge, so their minds run faster. They remember anything they learn and never forget what they learn.
- They also learn through online platforms and through digital learning.
- Also have the freedom to choose and explore different kinds of subjects they want to.
- Reduces the pressure of academics on students.
- Students can focus on creativity, skill and also give them a case study so they can solve it by using their minds.
- Helps to prepare for jobs where students can get any job in future, so they can not struggle to get a job.
These are the reasons why a new education policy is necessary for Indian students.
Goals of New Education Policy [NEP]
Goals of NEP are the same points we discussed earlier in its importance, which are:-
- Make learning more practical or skill-based by NEP
- Prevent the pressure of rote learning, which means learning and memorising subject content through repetition. It is also a root loop, which means exam, forget, then prepare, then again forget, then again prepare, it’s a root loop. NEP reduces this, so students can not easily forget what they learn.
- Focus on creativity and critical thinking through case-based study.
- Through NEP, Freedom allows students to choose different subjects so that they know where their interest is, and they learn multiple skills so that they become more creative, get better career opportunities for the future and reduce study pressure by studying subjects they enjoy. For example, a student who studies commerce with design or coding gains both business and technical skills.
- Improve online and digital learning so they can learn anything anywhere, for say if a student is at home can attend classes online.
- Focus on the mother tongue/local language in classes because they understand what they learn and feel comfortable.
Few Changes by the New Education Policy [NEP]
- In the NEP 10+2 system changed to 5+3+3+4. In the 10+2 system, 10 years of school education, from class 1st to 10th, and 2 years of higher secondary education, from class 11th to 12th. In this, students choose streams like commerce, science and arts, but the 5+3+3+4 system, this system is based on children’s age and their learning stage.
There are 4 Stages Introduced By NEP:-
- Foundation Stage includes 5 years: Nursery+ kg+ classes 1-2
- Preparatory Stage includes 3 years: Class 3-5, Age: 8-11 years
- Middle Stage includes 3 years: Class 6-8, Age:11-14 years
- Secondary Stage includes 4 years: 9-12, Age: 14-18 years
- NEP focus more on vocational skills and internships because students gain knowledge about real-world experience, and internships increase future job opportunities for students
- NEP offer multiple entry and exit options in college gives flexibility in their education reason were: students can pause studies if needed and continue later, when a student is facing any personal and financial problems it also helps from that, it also reduces load in completion of full degree at once so student can still receive certification or any diplomas for completed years and it’s makes higher education more flexible examples: 1 year complete- certificate, 2 year-Diploma, 3 years-degree.
- Students can choose different subject combinations.
Therefore, NEP can be the game-changer for our education system.
